Character Workshop?
So lets Say I Make a Character for a game, but I want an outside opinion on it. I take I post it on the Character workshop thread and get peoples thoughts and questions about that character. Maybe things in the background that i Left out that might have been obvious but when someone else reads there like "Umm whats this about" or it could be run like a request Thread "Hey I am working on a char for such and such game (give the link for the game) And am working on this kind of character if someone would like to review it for me that would be niffty thanks" So is this idea practical, do you think enough people would be interested in posting and reviewing ....questions, comments, concerns, smart remarks?

I'd be up for this, to help give opinions and the like, help people make sheets etc.
As I see it there is already a place for this under general discussion (rules) but if get something sorted out and want my help. PM me

I would be down. I think characters benefit from peer review.

Hi, I have a question...
Well, Ive never used a PbP and I want to know if I can use some charectars that me and my friends used to use... Ok, mainly a Grippli. My DM friends allowed it, but Idk if these DM masters will. Does it sound like a good question to ask (and if you don't know what a Grippli is look here..http://www.scribd.com/doc/19792040/DnD35Index-Races on page 31 , its the 3.5e Race Index) |

Grippli looks like a reasonable race to me. You'd have to ask whoever is running the game ad though...Sometimes the race just doesn't fit their game world. It never hurts to ask though!

I've been looking around for a while and I can't seem to find it, so I figured this might be a good thread to ask in.
Is there an actual sub-forum for the discussion/development of characters? Like what can be done to make the character even a little better at what they do or how to fill in that five year gap in your 26 year old Warlord's history? If not, I absolutely think there should be. And if there is... Well, perhaps put it in a more accessible place? Last edited by Anima Shadow; 07-23-2010 at 01:42 AM. |

As an 'outsider' I'd be grateful for a workshop, the one thing that's held me back in starting playing is the overwhelming feeling towards all the information that's thrown at you from the books. Be much easier if there was a place to just make a character sheet based on what I thought the books meant, and get feedback on where I went wrong, rather than doing that via applying for a game, getting rejected and losing any confidence/excitement towards the game.

I really like the idea of a character workshop! Especially as a new player!

I and a couple of other people have been doing that in the application threads for my games. I think having the feedback really helps people get an understanding on how to fit all the masses of information in a character sheet together and come up with mechanically effective characters.
I thought there was a forum for this but not sure. I'd be into helping with this.

Nocturnal is a hero. He's been a great help so far into helping a complete green like me fit in and understand all those books. Thank you, Nocturnal.

I like that a random idea I had months ago is still being talked about...Still wondering what are the odds that a Red Name will take a gander at this and see that maybe it might be worth looking into creating a part on the site for this.

It seems to be done, to some extent, over in Class Discussions
The problem I forsee with actually dedicating a thread/forum/whatever to it is that there's never a shortage on those who would like pointers on improving their character while the amount of response to such requests varies greatly. You can even see it by following the provided link - one thread has no response, while others are in the double-digits.

I like the idea of a workshop, perhaps a thread/sticky for new players with vets offering strategies/suggestions for character creation and feedback. I found the article by Kariel Lateef in the latest issue of Explosive Runes very informative, and imagine the workshop could be something similar but in the forum format. http://www.dndonlinegames.com/explos...ve_runes_8.pdf my two cents
